avatar=410_1408942139.jpgStar Ocean: Second Evolution is one of the game that has the greatest story line in their series. My over all score for this game is 9/10

Story 8/10

This game has one of the best story line I have ever seen for so many RPG games I have played. Tearful moments, happy moments, angry moments, etc… you will be able to experience most of them from this game. The reason why it didn’t get a 10 from me is because there are a few parts of the story they could have done better and not making it so time consuming since it is a hand hold game where one have to look at the tiny screen. The several cut scenes and you will be able to find those from the anime Star Ocean EX that was aired backed in 2001 (One of my favorite childhood anime), but I believe it had been reworked since it look better in the psp.

Art 8/10

I say the art its somewhat well done. For a game on psp, I believe they had put in so much detail that it is almost scary how much work they put into it. Sadly, everything is still very pixel like and doesn’t quite have any smooth edge. The main reason why is a 8 for me is mainly because the great cut scenes they have but it can feel a bit lacking in those animated cut scene if you are looking forward to them. If they can somehow smoothing all the edges and adding just a few more animated cutscene, then it might have been a 10 for me.

Sound 10/10

The BGM, sound effects, and vocals are all amazing. There is over 80 different sound tracks and then the sound effects gave it another plus for making it even more entertaining. The vocals are done really well as expected of Japanese VA but this one as a RPG game for psp, I believe is at the top of my list. Both dubbed and undubbed are pretty good but of course… If you are here at this page I bet you prefer undubbed like me.

Game Play 8/10

Some part of the game feels unnecessarily long. Either be fight or one part of the story, it can be just bit too long. Also, the battle system is the same as all other Star Ocean game but the problem of being ported to hand hold device still is just it doesn’t quite feel the same. Some of the attacks are way too flashy and some times though, it is almost like its their secret skill or something since it covers the whole screen but nope. They can be challenging but I feel as you progress, the difficulty of the game keeps on jumping. One boss can feel hard and then suddenly the next one is super easy. I don’t know if this will happen to everyone but that is how I felt. The game play its great over all but it needs to have a bit more consistency.

My Overall rating is 9/10

Game play: Lets start to the story. Its story has the most balanced story in all of the Star Ocean besides First Departure. I thought the game was bad because I only look at its screenshots but when I tried to play it, the story and the game play makes me want to play more. (Spoiler) After Planet Expel exploded i thought that the game will be finished because I battle and finished (loses) the last boss of the last dungeon on Expel but later after your characters will awake, you will see that you have to explore the Planet Nede (another planet where your characters awoken) to finish this game. You will unlock new characters based on your walk through. There are many characters but you can only get 8 characters based on your game play.

Graphics: It is not graphics by the way it is the “Art Style” because Star Ocean Second Evolution is only a remastered version that was ported to the PSP so expect an art style graphics like PS1 but the Art Style is good and well polished.

Soundtrack: Like Final Fantasy games, the soundtrack of this is original especially the opening song. You will hear many soundtracks based on the events on what is happening like when battling you will hear excitement sound.

Overall: A very good game for all ages especially teens who have PSP or PPSSPP emulator.
